PDX- 8 of 9 2010 Nike Ads Complete

Last week we shot AD number 8 for the NIKE SNOW 2010 AD CAMPAIGN. The whole ad campaign is based off of a concept of mine called “Birds eye of snow”.

I wanted to create an action campaign with a unique perspective throughout. I then proposed a birds eye view, of each of the NIKE riders. All shots would be from a helicopter with doors off, hanging out, shooting down onto the rider specific to their style of riding. For example, Louie Vito’s ad was a halfpipe shot from above in CO. (I am pretty stoked on the shot), Eric Jackson’s was a cliff in Canada, etc. A lot of backcountry shoots have been done from a helicopter, many jump photos and natural riding. However, bringing this concept into the park and urban envrioments has been the fun creative part for me. The goal when the capmpign is complete it to deliver a fresh shots as a complete, series, featuring of NIKE SNOWBOARDING’s team.

Last weeks shoot was of a Austin Smith, on a dirty ass park jump at Mt. hood, Oregon. Below are a few out takes from the shoot. This entire ad campaign shoot has been a project for the past 6 months, and been a challenging and fun one for sure. Waiting for all the variables to line up (rider, location, snow, wind, sun, heli, good action) has been interesting for each shoot. So the pressure is on to get it, when the bird takes off as you only have a small window to get that one shot… The locations have varied from a city in Washington, to a park and pipe in Colorodo, to a crazy peak in Alaska, to the backcountry in British Columbia, to a hot summer day at mt. hood.

As all the ads are now laying together, the campaign has a really insane feel throughout now looking at them collectively as a series. Stoked! Stay tuned as I will be posting each ad as it launches in the mags. Below are out takes from last week’s shoot.
