Time to Grind

Off for a month straight of shooting. Should be a good one. Barely time to breathe, hopefully good moments/conditions/ and times will be along the way . Grind time. First off to Maui to shoot a portrait for Rolling Stone Mag of Clay Marzo. (Fuckin Hyped!) Quick 24 hr mission to loction scout. Meet and feel out Clay, shoot him, and squeeze in a surf session. Then back to the airport. Then off to Whistler to shoot with Annie Boulanger, for Nike for four days. Praying for snow to stay good, and the sun to POP!

Next off to East Coast (saying what up to the homies!) and to shoot at the US OPEN for Kodak for the 3 days. ALso in Stratton, Blotto and I are doing a SNOWMAD photo show. If your around swing thru! PBR will be flowing the brews!

Following that is the mission to Europe to meet up with GIGI for Nike. THis will be only an 8 day trip to get quite a bit of material. 2010 Nike snowboarding ad campaign has quite a different feel than last years. It will be an entirely different mind frame of shooting which is always good to keep pushing yourself.

Finally, I’m off for 10 days to interior British COlumbia backcountry for NIke and Oakley. However, this will be a pretty special trip to document Nicolas Muller and Jake Blauvelt. “Nonchalant” is what comes ot mind when describing Nico and Jake’s riding. Each of them have very unique style of using the mountain as their canvas, and together it could be all time.

Barely time to blink.

Ultimate Border 2010

The triathlon of a new generation! The ULTIMATE BOARDER is a one-week competition to find both the individual athlete and team who can conquer the art of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. The competitors will embark on a journey of a lifetime. Many have reached success in their core sport. UB profiles individual athletes who compete in all three events as well as the team competition that profiles a relay team of three athletes. Each year, they will be given the opportunity to prove to themselves, and the world, that they can master the art surf, skate, and snow. This event will create a new breed of athletes, a new hero for the X & Y generation and generations to follow. Event Dates: March 13th – 20th, 2010 Surfing – Seaside at Cardiff (March 13th – 16th) Snowboarding – Northstar-at Tahoe (March 18th & 19th) Skateboarding – Grand Sierra Resort & Casino (March 20th)

The Annenberg Space for Photography will be showcasing some of the world’s finest sports photographers on the evening of Feb.11th from 7-9pm. The event is free & I hope that all of you in the L.A. area can come by. It is a slideshow of some amazing sports photography & I wish that I could make out there for the night!

Grant Brittain, Christian Hosoi, and Chris Miller Autograph Signing

Christian Hosoi, Chris Miller and Grant Brittain will be signing high quality posters from us at ID Prints in the Grind for Life Chill Zone at the ASR Show on February 3rd at 5ish in room 25B upstairs. Final Grand Prix Olympic Qualifier at Park City this weekend

Park City is hosting the last stop of the final two Grand Prix events this weekend. These last two contests are for pre-qualified riders only! Only snowboarders who have ranked at least one top sixteen result for men and one top eight result for women are eligible for these last two events. There are a few wild-cards though at the coaches discretion which can be up to four men and two women. Here are your riders for this weekends last two Grand Prix events.

Shaun White is already confirmed on the men’s team. Louie Vito has two 2nd places, while JJ Thomas and Zack Black both have 3rds and 5ths. Scotty Lago has a 3rd and a 7th, and Luke Mitrani has one 4th place finish. Both Danny Davis and Mason Aguirre’s names are on the list but both are out due to injury. KP is still recovering from a head injury, and our thoughts are definitely with the nicest kid alive.

Danny Kass has not qualified in the top 16 however he may be awarded a wild card from the coaches. Danny placed 17th and 18th at the Mammoth Grand Prix. Danny won silver in the last Olympics so I’m sure the coaches are keen to award him a spot in the last two events to mix things up. U.S. Snowboarding Halfpipe Head Coach Mike Jankowski said, “He isn’t a wild card in there, he’s a top ranked rider, and I’m not just talking about his silver medal. He won the US Open pipe last winter, got injured, and now he’s all healed up. You never know what can happen with Dan.”

For women in order of current ranking Kelly Clark, like Shaun, has two first place finishes and is in. Gretchen Bleiler has a 1st and 2nd, Hannah Teter follows with a 2nd and 3rd, then Elena Hight with a 2nd and 5th, and Ellery Hollingsworth with two 5th place finishes.

After the Saturday night finals, part of the US Olympic pipe team—three men and three women—will be announced. The remaining riders will be announced on January 25.
